SAG is LNG technology leader

SAG is the European technology and market leader in cryogenic tank systems for liquid LNG.

SAG’s premium quality LNG tanks, manufactured in Europe, are characterized by their easy serviceability, flexible dimensions in length and diameter as well as high durability. Likewise, our tanks are particularly vibration-resistant, heat-insulating and have an extremely long shelf life until boiloff of up to 8 days.

LNG Facts

  • LNG is liquefied natural gas
  • Natural gas is cooled to -162° and thus becomes liquid
  • Liquefaction compresses the volume 600-fold
  • Increases the range of tractors up to 1,600 km
  • LNG is produced from natural gas or renewable energies (biogas, wind and solar energy)
  • LNG-powered trucks are more environmentally friendly, more economical, quieter than gasoline or diesel vehicles

  • Colorless and odorless
  • Non-toxic
  • Non carcinogenic
  • Not hazardous to water
  • Flammable only in gaseous form in concentrations of 5-15% in combination with air
  • First LNG filling station in Graz
  • Lighter than air
  • No increased hazard potential compared to diesel

  • Minus 95 % particulate matter
  • Minus 77 % Nitrogen oxides (NO )
  • Minus 96 % Nitrogen dioxide
  • Minus 65 % Nitrogen monoxide
  • Minus 50 % Noise pollution
  • Minus 20 % Co2

  • China is currently the largest market with around 70,000 truck.
  • In the EU currently about 4,000 LNG trucks
  • Largest suppliers are IVECO, SCANIA, MAN, VOLV
  • LNG is seen as a bridging technology to hydrogen
  • Europe already has a practical network of refueling stations
  • Blue Corridor project of the EU = support program for LNG use in transportation

According to current studies, the number of heavy trucks and semitrailer trucks within the EU will increase by 307,000 to 2.76 million by 2040 if current registration trends are continued. 480,000 (17 percent) of these will be LNG-powered, which experts estimate will replace up to 11.5 billion liters of diesel fuel.

Advantages of SAG LNG tank systems
at a glance

Compared with diesel, LNG reduces sulfur oxide and particulate matter emissions by almost 100 percent, nitrogen emissions by 80 to 90 percent and CO2 emissions by around 20 percent. Noise emissions are up to 50 percent lower than trucks with diesel tanks. Other advantages are as follows:
